Boat Building Apprentice






As a boat builder you could work all kinds of designs from fishing boats to luxury yachts. as an apprentice you will learn skills such as building the internal structure and fit outs which include plumbing, engineering, interior design, deck fittings and engine installation.. Apprentices work alongside adult mentors learning mathematical and carpentry skills while building wooden boats. after completing a four-week trial period with stipend, apprentices are paid an hourly wage which is based upon attendance and performance.. One running from the top of the mast to the back, one about 3/4 of the way up, thru the spreader, and down to the side of the boat, one from just below the spreader to the side of the boat (remember the chainplates? that's where they attach), and one about 3/4 of the way up to the front of the boat..

About


To become a boat builder you need to complete an apprenticeship and gain one of the following certificates, depending on your specialisation: new zealand certificate in boat building (alloy, composite, steel, wood) (level 4). An apprenticeship can be full-time or part-time. the apprentice will be provided with a copy of the enrolment details for the apprentice and for the employer. will make contact with the rto of their choice to discuss the training options offered..
